Gathering before the Walk Against Violence
By Jade Arroyo
Before the San Miguel Walk Against Violence, which was held during the pilgrimage to San Juan de Los Lagos on January 24, a group of activists and humanitarians gathered at Los Milagros restaurant to get ready for the walk, which is a benefit for the domestic violence programs organized by the staff at CASA. The meeting was held to sign up participants in the walk and support the cause of eradicating domestic violence and empowering women and girls. This program offers help in crises, provides ongoing counseling and a 24-hour emergency hotline, and access to medical care, legal assistance and emergency shelter. CASA also works to educate young people, police officers, teachers and families about how to break the cycle of violence.
