“Men in Hats” and other works
By Claudette Noel
Niels Henriksen, an internationally collected artist, will be showing some of his fine art photographs from San Miguel at the Cafe Muro and Art Gallery. His showing includes two series. The first, his black and white portraits of “Men in Hats,” includes famous artists, musicians, authors and interesting people from San Miguel. As Niels says, “With the strong sun in San Miguel, a hat is not only a personal accessory but functional and also demonstrates their personality.”

The second series is a collection of color photographs from his “Arches and Street Photography.” These prints have subtle hues of reflected colors, which bring a special life to his photographs. “I strive to create a richness in detail and color. Only by freezing a moment can we spend more time observing the richness around us,” he said.
Niels is meticulous in the detail and tonal rendering of his photographs. This is evident in the process he uses to select the perfect photographic paper, which will enhance the particular subject matter. Each print has been hand-printed by Niels to the highest-quality archival standards and are, according to testing organizations, guaranteed to last 200-plus years in museum display settings.
Many may be familiar with his photographs of San Miguel, which he posts on his Facebook page “San Miguel de Allende Photography.” Please take a look and observe how he captures life here in San Miguel.
This is the first time that either of these series has been shown. Come and meet the artist for an opening celebration on Saturday, February 1, from 1-4pm.
