On January 21, the 245 anniversary of the birth of the Mexican Independence hero General Ignacio Allende y Unzaga, was celebrated in San Miguel de Allende. Allende was born here in 1769, when the city was known as San Miguel el Grande; it took his current name after the hero.

The celebration included the participation of the Heroic National Mexican Army in a traditional civic-military parade, through the main street of the city, with the participation of over 500 military personnel, members of the emergency corps, educative institutions and beauty queens.
