The Procuraduría de Justicia del Estado de Guanajuato (Guanajuato State Attorney General’s Office) reported that on Saturday, December 29, the body of a 58-year-old American resident of San Miguel de Allende was found inside a refrigerator by his adopted son.

The Procuraduría confirmed that the death was caused by several blows and strangulation. They also confirmed that there were no signs of violence in the victim’s house. The crime is under investigation.

Following new criminal procedure legislation that was enacted in 2011, the Procuraduría classifies the information as confidential or reserved for all kinds of crimes, based on Article Seven of the Principle of Transparency. The article states that the justice system is allowed to restrict the dissemination of information about the crime through the media when the normal progress of the investigation could be affected, as well to protect the victims, witnesses and minors.

More information on the case will be published if a suspect is arrested.
