Get ready for the CUBAFEST

The Cuban festival in the city will turn 11 years and will pay tribute to the King of Mambo.

Guadalupe Meza and Adolfo Cervantes, directors of the CUBAFEST, informed that the festival will take place from March 8 to 16 and will be a homage to Damaso Pérez Prado “The King of Mambo”; popular for songs such as mambo “Lupita”, “Politécnico”, “UNAM” and “Número Cinco”, among other themes which are expressions of the Mexican culture, accompanied with the contagious Cuban rhythm.

For the first time, Mexico City and New York City will be the invited cities, because the genre was most popularized there.

According to the organizers, one of the main attractive of the festival will be the expo, which as usual will be installed in the pedestrian area of the Jardín Principal. In this expo, it will be easy to purchase the most popular products of the Cuban artists, such as music, art crafts, literature and musical instruments. There will be music from Omara Portuondo, Pablo Milanés, Orquesta Aragón and Compay Segundo among other Cuban celebrities.

The festival will also feature several film premiers, among them “Se vende”. The web page of the movie states that: Nácar is a young girl who is facing a severe financial crisis. One Sunday, as usual, she goes to the cemetery in order to talk with her dead mother, who commands her to sell her crypt. “If we have to sacrifice the dead to feed the living ones, we will do it—says the mother.”  Nácar is scared and tells it to a close friend, Pilar, who convinces her to do it. Later, Noel arrives to Nácar’s life and with him, she experiences the adventure of exhume their beloved ones.

Meza and Rubio assured that it will be a festival full of surprises, featuring live orchestras. This year, the CUBAFEST will include events in Dolores Hidalgo.
