New Year’s resolution redux: there’s still time!
By Megan Gabel
Last December, we made a 2013 New Year’s Resolution – to find good homes for Dorita and Gűera, two dogs who have been SPA residents since 2009. We’re almost done with 2013 and our resolution is unfulfilled. But there’s still time to discover the magic of these two wonderful dogs and make our resolution come true.
Gűera is a pretty girl, small/medium-sized with a warm honey-blonde coat. Her big brown eyes penetrate your soul. About six years old, this sweetheart is easy to walk and has an adorable and surprising playful side. She has a funny habit of running around in circles to get your attention and when she has it, she starts jumping in excitement. She’ll happily sit and, if that’s not enough, lie down so you can put a leash on her – maybe even turn over first for a belly rub.
Having the dubious honor of being our longest canine resident, Dorita was only five weeks old when she arrived. She is a beautiful, brown/tan medium-large slender girl. She sits on command and walks well on a leash. With some of us, she saunters on up for a greeting and to be petted and gets very excited about going for a walk.
So why haven’t these two been adopted? Because they’re shy. Gűera hides when she doesn’t know you, afraid to venture out for a walk. Dorita jumps at any sudden movement and backs away from those she doesn’t know. Unfortunately, when looking to adopt, most people don’t want to spend the time to get to know those dogs who are not readily and quickly accessible like these two. People miss out by failing to appreciate their hidden treasures. The reward of Gűera’s look of utter devotion is worth the patience it takes to earn it. Appreciating Dorita’s evolving courage can’t help but bring a smile to your face.
Shyness is an issue for some of our most wonderful dogs such as Gűera and Dorita and keeps them from shining at a first impression. Our experience has taught us that once shy dogs become members of families, you couldn’t ask for a better, more loving pet. Each one is looking to be part of a family. Could that family be yours?
Please come and meet Gűera and Dorita at the SPA any day, Monday through Saturday, from 11am-2pm. A New Year’s resolution is at risk so hurry in!
