Knowing more about the Club Rotario de San Miguel de Allende

Club Rotario de San Miguel de Allende (club 23623 District 4160) was sponsored by Club Rotario de Querétaro and chartered as a Mexican AC on August 6, 1958. Among the 20 founder members was the late Don Salvador de Lara Martínez, who became its first president.
The club was among the first in México to implement the change on Rotary international that allowed women to be Rotarians. Doña Evelia León de Lara, wife of Don Salvador, was among the first to become a Rotarian. Doña Evelia is a past president (2007-2008) and still an active member of the club. After 55 years, her work and commitment is an inspiration for all of us.
The club has uninterruptedly worked on behave of San Miguel de Allende since it was founded, following its principals of service and teamwork. During this last 55 years, some of the projects the club has undertaken are the following:
•Two fire trucks donated to San Miguel Fire Department.
•Six ambulances donated to San Miguel Cruz Roja
•Underwriter for the construction of the Union Medica Hospital (later Hospital de la Fe) and the donation of one ambulance.
•Installation at the Hospital Civil de San Miguel of a medical unit for early detection of uterine-cervix cancer for women.
•Construction of 12 dental clinics.
•Construction of water distribution network for schools at Peña Blanca and Jalpa rural communities.
•Playground for 58 rural schools.
•Construction of the first stage of Jose Maria Morelos public school in colonia San Antonio.
•Kitchen equipment of Casa Hogar don Bosco, dining room for Casa Hogar Santa Julia, Mechanical cow for soya milk production for Casa Hogar Mexiquito.
•Special wheelchairs for handicapped people with low income.
•Sponsorship for foundation of Midday Rotary club (San Miguel de Allende) and Club Rotario Internacional las Minas (San Luis de la Paz).
•Exchange students program for young San Miguel teenagers to travel abroad.
For the last few years, we have encouraged relations and friendship among Rotarians, local NGO and volunteers. Rotary international is renewing it image, and the way it works (inside and outside) and we are excited for the benefits this will bring for everybody.
