Friends of Santa Ana Church formed to repair historical building
By Patricia Frey
Santa Ana Church, located in the bright yellow building right next door to the Biblioteca, is in need of repairs and restoration. This 184-year-old historic church is well worth saving.

So far, the small English-speaking parish community has already donated funds to repair and re-plate the candlesticks, flower vases, tabernacle, and processional cross. However, additional funds are needed. Many more projects, big and small, have been identified to bring this community landmark back to its former beauty. Since the parishioners cannot raise sufficient funds, Pastor Padre Briones has given his permission for the formation of the group Friends of Santa Ana Church to help raise funds and begin the projects.
The first effort will be to clean, repair, re-plate, and upgrade wiring on the chandeliers that are currently used only twice a year because of the added electrical expense! Providing energy-efficient bulbs for the six chandeliers at a cost of about US$150 will help to solve that problem.
Other upcoming projects include having the high altar painted artistically in white with gold trim. Receiving permission from the local historical society for this work is in progress. Permission has already been granted to install and landscape a back patio to make the area user-friendly for classes, meetings, and receptions. Only lack of funds stands in the way.
Local citizens and community groups can share in this restoration effort. You are invited to contribute funds and services through Friends of Santa Ana Church. Public accounting/reporting of funds will be regularly forthcoming for the non-profit group. In appreciation and gratitude, Fr. Oser will keep donors in his prayers during a monthly Mass.
