By Jesús Aguado
San Miguel de Allende was voted the World’s Best City by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler Magazine. Mayor Mauricio Trejo received the award in New York City.
This recognition is yearly awarded by the magazine based on the votes of its readers. San Miguel was ranked with 84.6 points over Paris, San Sebastián, Florence and Vienna. The readers of the magazine commented that San Miguel is a city that has it all, good environment, delicious restaurants, culture and, besides, it is a cosmopolitan city. Other comments stated that the atmosphere of San Miguel generates an environment of traditional Mexico in the heart of the country.
The award was presented to Mayor Trejo on November 12 in New York City by Hanya Yanakihara, editor at large of the magazine. After receiving the prize, mayor Trejo said that San Miguel is Guanajuato’s window on the world and remarked that now Mexico is not just beaches and sun, but culture and traditions. He dedicated the award to the three levels of government, to the sanmiguelense society and to the private sector.
On November 15, in Mexico City, another prize was presented to Mayor Trejo by the Mexican editor of Conde Nast. Trejo thanked the magazine for the award and said that it is a prize won by the sanmiguelenses, for Guanajuato and Mexico.
