“Metales M5 model their shows on the successful formula of high entertainment coupled with extraordinary virtuosity. Since its founding in 2005 in Morelia, Michoacán, this incredible ensemble has been playing a wide variety of music without regard to genre: contemporary music, opera and blues, pop, baroque, movie soundtracks and folk music from Spain, Mexico and other Latin American countries. They combine their musical skills with top interaction with the audience, inborn showmanship and their inimitable Latin American charm. They created their own sound and identity … their infectious enthusiasm for performing and impeccable playing should be heard around the world,” proclaimed Jens Lindemann, trumpet soloist and former member of the Canadian Brass.

At Escuela de Educación Especial, San Miguel’s only school for deaf youth, students aged three to 31 receive a public school education from kinder through primary, and adult courses as well as life and job-training skills and extracurricular social activities to become self-assured, self-reliant citizens, and music appreciation is part of that, as is giving back, for the students volunteer at So Others May Eat, a program for under-privileged older citizens.

Vocational educational training programs are currently being developed in conjunction with local agencies such as the San Miguel Community Foundation and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship; local businesses, and local, US and Canadian Rotary Clubs. These programs will train young adult and adolescent deaf students in many different areas, including computers, arts and crafts, sewing, metal and glasswork and cooking. Opportunities for social growth and development also are offered, including musical opportunities. The students will be on stage at the theater interpreting the music in sign language for one or two songs, a show that will make your heart sing!

You can’t miss this concert, so if you have not already purchased your tickets for the Metales M5 Mexican Brass Concert, don’t wait! All proceeds from this concert will benefit this school and its deaf students. Tickets are available for 100 to 300 pesos at Teatro Angela Peralta, both Solutions locations, and La Conexion at Aldama 3.
