Anniversary celebrations for La Biblioteca
By Jade Arroyo
The Biblioteca Pública is one of the most enduring institutions in town, dedicated for 59 years now to the promotion and support of education and culture in San Miguel, particularly focused on the youngest generations. The institution offers book loans and art and music workshops and is a venue for community theater, musical performances, talks and films.
To celebrate 59 years of service, several activities were created, from workshops on recycled art, musical presentations, history lectures and a recital by a soprano to a traditional callejoneada (stroll) through the main streets of Centro and a hilarious magic/comedy show by famous magician Dudu Dada (aka José Luis Mendoza) and his charming pink-haired assistant, Gina. Another interesting event was the book presentation of The Gardener of Ghosts, Life and Work of Carlos Ancira by Jesús Ibarra, editor of Atención and writer. The book covers the Mexican actor’s life and includes photos and testimonials by friends and students. There is still a week of celebration, so don’t miss the remaining events! On Thursday 21, a callejoneada will take place from the Jardín to La Biblioteca, where a concert by Gaby Perales, who will perform pieces from opera, along with boleros and modern pieces, accompanied by Sergio Basurto, will be offered. Here’s to 59 more years of community service!
