My introduction to Cafe Muro Restaurant on calle Loreto 10B started with a warm greeting from the co-owner, Gerardo. Then, it was the hospitality he and his partner Carlos showed us as we were served. These two men started Café Muro Restaurant only three years ago. I learned from Gerardo that he grew up in his grandmother’s home and restaurant called Bugambilia. He continued to help out there while getting an education in law. Though he practiced law for several years, he found his real love and instincts were in the preparation of food, as well as a strong desire to start his own restaurant. Carlos also loves cooking as well as interior design and photography, so the two joined in creating this impressive restaurant by transforming its bathroom into a work of art. Can you see why I wanted to have a show at this darling place? So now, on November 9 from 1 to 4pm, they will serve us refreshments and I will exhibit my acrylic and watercolor paintings. If you’d like to know a bit about me, well, I completed 14 years in creating and maintaining a boutique in Edmonds, Washington, near Seattle. Though I learned and accomplished a lot, I was very tired and wondered if I could afford to retire a little early and move to a small town called San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. There, I could study art in depth. That is what I did, and now it is 31 years later. My Spanish has not improved that much but my art has, thank goodness. It has been a real adventure for me to explore many avenues of art, but painting is where most of my time has been spent. I do remember though, as this was my second one-woman show at the Bellas Artes and my art was not that great, but I pushed ahead anyway. A very fine woman artist was heard to have said, “Oh, Rae is actually taking her painting seriously, I see.” Yes, I was, even though I started a bit late. I was going to learn it all if I could. And so now I hope you will be able to come and see what I have created. Muro is about eight doors up from Insurgentes, at calle Loreto 10B. The exhibit will remain at Muro until the end of November.
