Sixth Margarita Festival to benefit CASA
By Jade Arroyo
On Friday, October 25, a fundraising event was held to support CASA, an association that provides health and educational programs to women and teenagers in rural areas. The celebration marked the sixth year of the margarita contest. The event was fun, casual and affordable, and dressed-up tequila cocktails and laughter flowed through the crowd.
It was held at Calenda restaurant and bar, inside the chic Nena hotel (located at Namesio Diez 10). Out in the street, a chill wind was blowing, but inside everyone stayed warm dancing to the band. The drinks were served at small tables labeled with the names of the different restaurants that participated in the margarita contest. Mexican snacks were served. Several restaurants showed off their creativity at preparing margaritas, including unusual offerings flavored with chili, some based on mescal, and others prepared with unusual indigenous ingredients. There was live music by The Rabbeats and DJ Symmetry spun tunes, as well as a raffle and an auction with prizes and gift certificates. Among CASA’s services are a maternity and family clinic, a school for professional midwives and sex and reproductive education.
