October 27, day of inner peace
By Alejandro Negrete
Inner peace is one of the most exalted virtues that we can develop as human beings. When one learns to cultivate the marvelous flower of peace within, one learns to live in a happier way and thus we are able to bring the best of ourselves to the world and to all the situations that arise in our lives. This in turn enriches us and those around us with that universal balm that heals the wounds of the soul.

The development of inner peace begins with honoring the natural yearning of the heart to achieve happiness. This yearning for peace and happiness, which rises up from the deepest part of our nature, is crystallized when one commits, on a personal level, to what is known in the Hindu tradition as ahimsa, which means non-violence.
We normally consider violence to be an act of physical aggression against another. But on a deeper level, violence is any act, ranging from the most base to the most subtle, that aggresses against life itself. It is for this reason that the comprehension of non-violence essentially has to do with recognizing and transforming the detrimental characteristics within us such as anger, judgment and hatred, whilst simultaneously cultivating the virtues of love, patience and kindness.
In the Emerald Tablets attributed to Hermes Trismegistus, it states that external reality is the reflection of the inner reality. On contemplating this axiom we reach the conclusion that the psyche is the space in which our external life is gestated. Therefore, it is only through internal transformation and the refinement of the psyche that we can create the life we so long for, both individually and globally. In the same vein the master Gandhi said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” So we see it is not through desiring others to change or through changing the external circumstances of our life that we will achieve peace and happiness, but rather through committing ourselves to the process of inner transformation so that we may become better human beings with each passing day; more conscious, compassionate, generous and wise. In this way we are gradually transformed into beings with extraordinary possibilities to create a better life both individually and collectively.
Within the Pneuma System we promote October 27 as the World Day for Inner Peace. With the objective of developing this vital virtue within ourselves, Pneuma System invites the San Miguel community to participate in the following activities.
All activities are on a donation basis. Donations will help cover the cost of the event.
10am: Pneuma Breathwork Session
