Pottery by Jesús Guerrero: An encounter with Mexican art and traditions
By Alfonso Bullé Goyri
In this exhibition, Jesús Guerrero brings together a collection of his masterworks where the ceramic reaches a high aesthetic level. It is a demonstration of how tradition becomes art, it is an exhibit where the meeting of traditions across the centuries reveal the spirit of a nation. This Jalisco artist has explored the depths of the ceramic traditions of Mexico throughout his long career. But his work goes farther than that. Over the years he has developed a complex dialogue between the worlds of ceramicist and goldsmith, two fields practiced over the centuries in this country of light and color. He collects the most representative elements of the pottery of his native land, Jalisco, and with this as a base, turns his eyes towards other countries and other landscapes.
