Mojo is showing large format photographs printed on metallic paper. He says everything began for him when he made the decision to travel. A native of Guadalajara, he has been to the western US and much of Mexico. “I have always used the gift of the free time we all have to explore, using oils, watercolors, acrylic, and the camera. I want to know something about everything—a friend told me I have a violent passion to live– and I want to experience and recreate all of it.” His photographs at Izamal, however, are serene and sometimes mysterious landscapes, some with figures. He has exhibited in Guadalajara, Sayulita (where he lived for a time), Los Cabos, and San Miguel.
Mary Jo Dolle is a native of San Antonio, Texas, but has lived in Cuernavaca for many years. She is both a potter and a jeweler, and her extensive jewelry training includes studies in Taxco, UNAM and The Instituto de Cultura in Mexico City, and The Southwest Craft Center in San Antonio, Texas. She maintains her own shop in the Bazaar Sabado in Mexico City. Her silver pieces—inspired by Mexican motifs—are bezel set with semi-precious stones, carved animals and faces and sometimes fossils, shells and coral, all of which she has collected in her travels.
She has shown widely throughout Mexico and in San Antonio and Houston.
Galería Izamal is a cooperative space founded in 1992.The art of members Juan Ezcurdia, Javier García, Cat Grall, Felipe López, Henry Vermillion, Britt Zaist, and the jewelry of Vanina Landini will also be featured at the opening. The gallery is open seven days a week, from 11am to 3pm, and from 4 to 8pm.
