Photography at its best!

By now, many of you have heard that the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops are coming back to San Miguel! It’s time to escape from your routine and indulge your passion for photography, as these instructors are among today’s most influential photographers. Spaces to attend these extraordinary workshops are filling fast but you can still sign up, plus qualified San Miguel residents receive a 50 percent discount off the package price.
This year’s impressive line up of Santa Fe Workshops instructors include Joe McNally, Arthur Meyerson, Jock Sturges, Jennifer Spelman, and San Miguel’s own Holly Wilmeth.
Once again, the instructors will be providing presentations of their work at the Teatro Ángela Peralta on Monday evenings. The presentation dates are October 14, 21, and 28, and will begin at 7:30pm. The instructors will share their own photography and techniques to inspire your creativity; these lectures are free and open to the public.
Joe McNally is a 25-year contributor to National Geographic and a former staff photographer at LIFE. Working in 54 countries and all 50 states, he has photographed cover stories for virtually every significant magazine of our times. One of his best-known series of photographs is the Giant Polaroid Collection, known as “Faces of Ground Zero,” shot immediately after 9/11. Joe’s presentation on Monday, October 14, is titled “Traveling Light, Lighting Well” and his workshop runs October 13-18.
Arthur Meyerson is an award-winning photographer and a highly sought-after workshop instructor. A three-time winner of Adweek’s Southwest Photographer of the Year award, Arthur was also named one of the 30 best advertising photographers by American Photo. Arthur’s presentation on Monday, October 14 is titled “The Color of Mexico” and his workshop also runs October 13-18.
Holly Wilmeth’s passion for ethnic cultures has taken her to more than 60 countries, from the remote corners of East Asia to the far north of Mongolia. Holly’s work has been featured in publications such as Time, Newsweek, AFAR, GEO, Travel + Leisure, and National Geographic Adventure. Holly’s presentation on Monday, October 21 is titled “Faces of Mexico: Environmental Portraiture” and her workshop runs October 20-25.
Vidal Berrones Murillo will also be a guest presenter, sharing his project “Pilgrimages of Horses in Coroneo” on Monday, October 21. Vidal has been a part of the Santa Fe Workshops since they first started coming to San Miguel. Vidal is a documentary photographer and cultural promoter with the Instituto Cultural of Guanajuato.
Jennifer Spelman is an editorial and documentary photographer. She was first introduced to photography by documenting crime scenes for jury presentation with a District Attorney’s office. Leaving behind the world of law enforcement, Jennifer has been published in Food & Wine, The Sun, Rangefinder, and B&W. Jennifer’s presentation on Monday, October 28 is titled “Photographing the People and Culture of San Miguel de Allende” and her workshop runs October 27- November 1.
Jock Sturges is a fine art photographer known for his nudes and extended portraits of families in Northern California, Ireland, and France. The author of several books, Jock has most recently been working in the world of high fashion, for publications such as L’Uomo Vogue, Japan Vogue, Rebel, POP, and Arena Homme Plus, among others. His work is in the collections of major museums including New York’s Museum of Modern Art and Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, and the Frankfurt Museum of Modern Art in Germany. Jock’s presentation on Monday, October 28 is titled “The Portrait and the Nude” and his workshop also runs October 27- November 1.
