Sibyl English in one word

By Trish Snyder

“Fabwonderful “ – Iven Kelly-Dobson
“Pitch perfect” – Cynthia Simmons
“Radiant” – Patricia Feldman Gonzlaez
“Dynamic” – Beverly Nelson
“Caring” – Sylvia Hoolihan
The correct answer? All of the above.

While most sanmiguelenses know Sibyl English as an entertainer and songstress, most aren’t aware that she is also the founder and editor-in-chief of two online magazines with a readership of more than 24,000 from the United States and around the globe.

Second Annual Wellness and Spirituality Expo
Wed, Oct 30 10am-3:30pm
Hotel Posada la Aldea
Tickets on sale October 1 at La Conexion on Aldama

Sibyl English, the editor, is bringing her magazine and a cadre of her contributing writers to San Miguel on October 30 for the second annual Wellness and Spirituality Expo. 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the domestic violence program at CASA.

Sibyl and I chatted on Skype about her plans. Her enthusiasm about returning to San Miguel bubbled over. Here’s a brief recap of that conversation.

Trish Snyder: Last year, you organized the first annual Expo. Were you happy with the results?

Sibyl English: I was thrilled! It was a wonderful day and I’ve received so much good feedback. Everyone wanted more. So, you know me….

TS: Plus, more than 30,000 pesos were raised to help battered women. How did you decide to make the Expo a benefit?

SE: I strongly believe in giving back– supporting a much-needed cause like domestic violence is a no-brainer! We’ve got to work together to stop the violence and abuse against women and children. As beautiful as San Miguel is, it hurts my soul to walk down the street or ride the bus and see obvious signs of physical abuse – black eyes, swollen lips, a real sadness in women’s faces. Sibyl Magazine’s tag line is “for the spirit and soul of woman.” How could I not do something?

TS: Can you tell me a bit about the presenters? Where do they come from, what will they cover?

SE: The expo will feature a total of 10 women speakers. Each will deliver a profound and personal message of hope, restoration and healing. Seven from the US, one from Canada and three from San Miguel, covering an array topics that will empower and inspire every person in attendance. Guaranteed a positive and joy-filled day of awareness and awakening.

TS: Where can we find more information? How do we sign up?

SE: Go online to learn more about each speaker.

Tickets go on sale October 1st. You can purchase your tickets at La Conexion (Aldama 3).

TS: Can San Miguel expect to hear you singing while you’re here?

SE: Of course! How on earth could I come home to San Miguel with so many wonderful friends, fans and family and not put on a performance? I have one big show on November 9th at El Sindicato Performing Arts Center on Recreo 4. As always, I’m looking to have a heck of a good time with everybody at the show!
