Perfect day at Hernández Macias street

By Jade Arroyo

To eat well, do some shopping, see good art and enjoy this beautiful city, here we present for you a suggested tour along Hernandez Macias street, one of the cultural arteries of the Centro.

To start your day, try the food at Cafe Contento (Hernandez Macias 72). This place offers gourmet Mexican food. Its sunny terrace is conducive to friendship and a good mood. What’s more, there are cooking and art classes.

Shopping time! Next door to the cafe there is the Plaza Colonial, a shopping center where you can find the store Tutto Bianco Bazaar. This shop is precious, like a treasure cave, and sells clothing, jewelry and accessories.

Crossing over you will hit the Cultural Center Bellas Artes (Hernandez Macias 75). This building is full of history. Founded in 1765 by Sor María Josefa Lina de la Canal y Hervas, as a convent, in 1962 it became officially the art and education center it is today. The murals and frescos are a must-see.

For those who like a hearty dinner, down the street is the Argentinian restaurant La Virundela (Hernandez Macias 48). The steak is excellent and the place offers a large selection of Argentinean and South American wines. There are some options for vegetarians like grilled veggies and empanadas.

To end the day there is the bohemian Petit Bar, located at Hernandez Macias 95. This place is divided into several rooms: the bar, a lounge, a patio (sometimes used as a dance floor) and two comfortable little cinemas which show exceptional movies. Once there, check the movie billboard.
