Meditations for travelers

By Robin Loving Rowland

A Little Book of Prayers and Meditations for Travelers by Mireille Grovier reminds us that, as Robert Louis Stevenson is quoted as saying, “There are no foreign lands. It is the traveler only who is foreign.”

Other quotations from Blake, Goethe, Emerson, Wordsworth, Longfellow, the author, and others, bring the reader wisdom and peace for our travels – whether they are from our armchairs or via supersonic means.

“This little book is … dedicated to travelers worldwide in the hope that … they will bring a message of peace and love that transcends hate and violence to the people and the lands they visit,” says Grovier.

“Life is a journey and our living it a process. How we value the process and grow from the lessons the journey offers is the measure of the people we eventually become. Mireille Rita Grovier’s A Little Book of Prayers and Meditations for Travelers is a handy little ‘carry-on’ guide for life’s journey. It offers the weary traveler sustenance, encouragements, insights and wisdom so that the experience of the journey, whether real or metaphoric, can be best processed and understood by the traveler,” said the Rev. Drs. Tom and Cynthia Lynch of the International academy of Interfaith Studies.

“Ms. Grovier’s book presents a gracious blend of … spirit-prompted and spirit-prompting poems … by … authors whom I admire. I should think it would provide inspiration to eager travelers and encouragement to those who travel more reluctantly. The illustrations complement the text in a gentle and affirming manner,” said Rev. Michael Long, former rector of St. Paul’s Church.

A Little Book of Prayers is a great blessing of comfort and inspiration for anyone traveling and for those quiet moments at home when connecting to our inner Spirit is so important,” said Rev. Nancy Anderson, Religious Science Minister Emeritus, Friends of Unity.

The book draws on various faith traditions including Christian, Chinese, Jewish, English, Austrian, Scottish, and those from the Philippines. It is illustrated with original art, and it reflects the author’s travels around the globe. It is available from May it be a welcomed traveling companion.
