The Unadoptables. Really?
By Joan DiPiero
At the SPA we have a wide range of cats and kittens and we can usually predict which ones will be adopted quickly. When we receive a blue-eyed, brown velvet-eared, cream Siamese type, we know his days with us will be few. We welcome in a cat who is always eager to sit on our laps, and know she will not wait long for a home. A playful kitten who purrs loudly when held will be quickly adopted. We are always grateful and happy for those going to a good home after such a brief stay with us. However, those of us who spend hours with the cats and get to know them so well hope adopters will notice those cats who aren’t as flashy in looks as our beauty contest winners, and feature more subtle personalities than our gregarious extroverts.
Molly is our fluffiest cat, a two-year-old female with lush gray fur. She is probably overlooked because she tends to take seven-hour naps in her favorite basket, so remains asleep when adopters come by. When awake, she enjoys some stimulating petting to keep her energized, at least for a few minutes.
Kahlua, a Siamese one-year-old, came to us as a baby and developed eye issues that kept her in the clinic for weeks. Her vision is now fine, but she was left with her eye slightly askew, and remains timid around people. She plays well with the other cats and loves to bat toys across the floor.
Fancy is one of the prettiest cats we’ve ever had, a longhaired tabby and white with piercing eyes. She loves other cats, is gentle and playful, but does not want any attention from mere humans. Wonderfully decorative, she is an easygoing no fuss, no muss girl, perfect for someone wanting an independent companion.
Miranda was a fantastic mom, and after her kittens were lovingly cared for, she decided she wanted no more cats in her life. She is gentle and affectionate with people and would love to be your only child, perhaps even accepting one other roommate (as opposed to 17!). A pretty plump calico two-year-old, she would make a wonderful pet.
Please consider giving one of these deserving cats a second look, proving that none of them is unadoptable. Meet them at the SPA, Los Pinos 7, 152-6124, between 11 and 2, Monday-Saturday. Preview all our available animals at www.spasanmiguel.org.
