Sipping joy in San Miguel
By Jade Arroyo
Well, thinking about your evening amusement, we decide to present you this time some of the most fun and pleasant places to have a drink and a bite after work hours. Each one offers a different vibe, for you to live the entire spectrum that the town offers you.
La Sirena Gorda, Barranca 78
To feel like a local, pour a nice under the throat and loose up the tensions, go to the Sirena Gorda (fat mermaid) at Barranca 78. This bar emulates the style of a traditional Mexican cantina (fear not, bottle-crackle fights aren’t likely), in fact, it is open since 1920. The music is cool, cocktails good and they have a little menu of tasty tapas (mostly fish tacos and seafood, but also try the artichoke, it is delicious). La Sirena Gorda is also a nice place to make friends at.
La Azotea, Umaran 6
This rooftop place is one of the favourite bars in town owing to its beautiful views of La Parroquia at one side and the red and purple San Miguel sunsets on the other. The site is contemporary and sleek, offering all kind of cocktails and drinks (including margaritas) and tasty tapas to munch. If you feel like wearing that cute dress you just bought, this is place to go wearing it.
Berlin Bar, Umaran 19
This bar/art gallery is great to enjoy a good glass of wine and tasty dinner with friends. The place describes itself just as the city it’s named after “open, creative and international”. Sitting at the bar is highly recommended to catch up in local gossip and to meet new people. Everyday happy hour from 5 thru 7pm.
Hank’s, Hidalgo 12
This New Orleans style bar and restaurant is one of the liviest spots in town, featuring tasty Creole food, martinis are the house speciality plus other drink promotions and fun jazz music. Happy hour everyday from 5pm-8pm.
