Santa Fe Photographic Workshops return to San Miguel
By Carrie McCarthy and Jennifer Posner
Since its inception in 1990, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, the premier photographic workshop organization in the world, has been providing educational excellence to thousands of people who share a passion for photography. Serving photographers from beginners to professionals, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops attracts the world’s most influential photographers as instructors and provide the steadfast dedication of a talented staff that ensures Santa Fe Photographic Workshops remain at the forefront of photographic education.
Santa Fe Photographic Workshops began coming to San Miguel de Allende in 2000, and for ten years participants were wowed, charmed and infatuated with all San Miguel has to offer photographers. This past spring they did a scouting trip, and fell in love with San Miguel all over again. Beginning in October, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops make their return to San Miguel after a four-year hiatus, offering seven distinctive workshops geared to Beginners, Amateurs, Advanced Amateurs and Professionals. Best of all, they are offering a 50 percent discount to full-time residents of San Miguel. Discounts for part-time San Miguel residents and residents of other areas of Mexico will also be available.
Time and again, participants speak of their exceptional experiences with Santa Fe Photographic Workshops. Advanced amateur photographer Catherine Hiesiger reflects, “It was fun and very inspiring; I was truly impressed. The atmosphere of kindness and acceptance motivated me in ways long since forgotten. Santa Fe Photographic Workshops has strengthened my resolve to listen to my own creative voice and give it life in my own unique way.”
One of the most enticing features that keeps participants coming back year after year is the caliber of the extraordinary instructors at Santa Fe Photographic Workshops. Talented, world-renown photographers Arthur Meyerson, Jock Sturges, Joe McNally, Amy Toensing, Jennifer Spelman and San Miguel’s own Holly Wilmeth, will teach workshops in San Miguel. Their goal is to provide educational, inclusive, supportive experiences.
Founder Reid Callanan credits the 24-year success of Santa Fe Photographic Workshops to its staff, instructors and partners. “We all have a passion for photography. More importantly, we will continue to be committed to providing innovation and inspiration to our most valued resource – our participants.”
Santa Fe Photographic Workshops run in San Miguel from October 13 to November 2 and each workshop lasts one week. The 2013 workshops provide a range of inspiring topics: “Traveling Light, Lighting Well; The Color of Mexico; Poetic Storytelling; Faces of Mexico: Environmental Portraiture; The Portrait and the Nude; and Photographing the People and Culture of San Miguel de Allende.” The distinguished instructors will once again be providing presentations of their work during the workshops in the Teatro Ángela Peralta each Monday evening, October 14, 21, 28 at 7:30pm. The instructors’ lectures are free and open to the public.
