Math coach and teacher of award-winning student competitors, Gerardo Chagoyán Silva plans to bring his successful program right here to La Biblioteca. Motivated students in sixth grade or of 12 years of age interested in expanding their knowledge of mathematics, challenging themselves to learn new skills and competing at the national level can now participate in El Programa Nivelación en Matemáticas (Mathematics Leveling Program).
Extra info: firstname.lastname@example.org
The program will begin September 6 and will be held every Friday from 3-5pm in La Biblioteca. Students can participate free of charge, and will gain extremely valuable skills in mathematics that give significant advantages in school; studying engineering, architecture, advanced math, or science; or may participate simply for the joy of intellectual discovery.
Sr. Chagoyán Silva’s program follows time-honored traditional methods of teaching math, in which students learn various skills and mathematical rules, follow the modeling of the instructor, and practice problems until they have mastered the skills required. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves and look for new ways to solve problems and arrive at the desired solution.
Programa Nivelación en Matemáticas will support the work students do in school, but will offer them something more; the opportunity to learn in a focused environment, surrounded by other motivated students with the desire to succeed, and led by a well-qualified and highly-experienced instructor. A communications and electronics engineer, Señor Chagoyán Silva graduated from the University of Guanajuato and has many years of professional experience in the field of education. As a mathematician, he is proficient in all levels of mathematics and is knowledgeable in the best practices of teaching math to children and adolescents.
All students who walk into the classroom with Sr. Chagoyán Silva come as equals, regardless of their current skill level or experience with math. They will work hard, but can expect to learn daily, challenge themselves and develop pride in their growing knowledge and improving skills. The goals of his program, says Sr. Chagoyán Silva, are “to help students develop their math skills and to achieve the success required to compete at the national level.” A lofty ambition, perhaps, but Señor Chagoyán Silva believes that the children who join Programa Nivelación en Matemáticas have the enthusiasm and work ethic required to make it to the competition, which is on a par with national tournaments in athletics and other activities. In the past, Señor Chagoyán Silva has sent students to the highly competitive Mundial de Matemáticas.
Students of Programa Nivelación en Matemáticas must be in sixth grade or 12 years of age by September 6. For more information or to sign up, please visit La Biblioteca at Insurgentes 25 or email Sr. Chagoyán Silva at email@example.com.
