Chicas felices y pistolas
By Nick Hamblen
Happy Girls and Pistols is the very fun title of the equally fun and exciting show of Cathey Miller’s work opening at Galería 6. Miller returns for a second time to Pozos on the heels of her near sold out 2012 show “Cerca del Cielo” at Galeria 6.

Again the subject matter is portrait based, mostly of women in western/charreada attire and often with guns and pistols, painted always in Miller’s bright and vibrant palate. This work brings to mind pulp fiction paperback covers from the 1940s and ‘50s. Many of the canvases include type with titles such as “Buena Suerte”, “Hasta la Vista” and “Vino El Remolino y Nos Levanto” (A Tornado Came and Took Us Away), which serves to enhance the pulp fiction aspect of the work.
Also included in this show will be two canvases from Miller’s extremely popular 2012 show “Texas Lady Singers” at the Kessler Theater in Dallas featuring legendary female singers.
Miller has worked as a professional artist since graduating in 1985 from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. After a stint of several years in New York City where she freelanced as an editorial illustrator, the artist moved to Dallas where she established her own painting studio, which thrives there to this day.
