The State Tourism Department (SECTUR) announced plans to build a wine museum and theme hotel as part of its mission to promote Guanajuato as a wine-producing region. The museum will be located in the building that housed the former hospital in Guanajuato.
In a press release, the Secretary of Tourism, Fernando Olivera Rocha, said that the project has a budget of two million pesos for the project and eight million pesos for the first stage of construction. Olivera Rocha also mentioned that this project will contribute a great deal toward promoting wines from Guanajuato nationally and internationally. The project was presented during the Guanajuato ¡Sí Sabe! Festival, held to promote the gastronomy of Guanajuato, which was attended by Congressman Juan Rendón, who is also a member of the Tourism Commission. Rendón said that the Tourism Commission will work closely with legislators to seek more funding for the project in 2014. Also in attendance were the mayor of Dolores Hidalgo, Adrián Hernández Alejandri, and the president of the Hotel and Motel Association, Armando Uribe.
