Lupe Rivera visits San Miguel

By Jade Arroyo

Guadalupe Rivera Marín, daughter of renowned Mexican painter Diego Rivera and Lupe Marín, visited our city for three days, “Las Fiestas de Frida y Diego Weekend,” filled with special events.

The 87-year-old lawyer, politician, economist and writer came to share her recollections of her extraordinary father and family stories. This weekend event was organized by the San Miguel Writers’ Conference, and proceeds benefitted the organization’s scholarships program. Besides quality lectures and presentations, the festival also provides workshops and currently is working with the association Ojalá Niños to set up libraries for children in rural communities. Lupe expressed how happy she was to be able to support education and the spread of culture. To welcome Lupe, a gala reception was held at Leslie Jaeger’s lovely home, where the guests enjoyed wine, snacks, good conversation and the chance to get acquainted with Lupe in a more relaxed and personal way.
