En la Cocina… Café La Ventana

Coffee. This heady black brew is adored by millions and one of the most popular beverages in the world. The scent, the color, the taste…. The enjoyment of coffee is a full experience involving all the senses.

Besides being a delight for many of us, the social importance of this liquid is undeniable: you ask the girl you like out to have a cup, you enjoy it with friends or you drink it to wake up in the morning.

But, what makes a cup of coffee perfect? To answer that question, I headed to La Ventana, one of the oldest and best-known coffee shops in San Miguel. La Ventana offers organic coffee from Unión de la Selva in Chiapas, a fair-trade association 80 percent made up of indigenous communities that focuses on fair labor practices and the purity and quality of its coffee.

Josefina Valentini is the owner of La Ventana and a barista (she is also a great actress).
She shared with Atención her recipe to make the perfect frappuccino at home (she added also that her next play is about to open).

Café La Ventana is located at Sollano 11, close to the Jardín, and offers a variety of choices including smoothies, pastries, sandwiches, cookies, fresh fruit, chocolate, tea and coffee. You can enjoy your coffee there or get it to go at the window. The phone number of La Ventana is 154-7728.

Frappuccino La Ventana

(1 serving)
1/3 glass of espresso
1/3 glass of evaporated milk
1/3 glass of whole milk
10 ice cubes
1 teaspoon of brown sugar or other sweetener
Whipped cream, chocolate, and caramel or another favorite flavoring


Put the ice, milk, coffee and sugar in a blender and blend to the desired texture. Pour some of the flavoring into the bottom of a glass and then the coffee mixture. Serve the iced coffee topped with whipped cream and shaved chocolate or chocolate chips.
