Chamber Music Festival celebrates 35 years
By Jade Arroyo
The 35th edition of the International Chamber Music Festival, the only music festival of its kind in the country, has been celebrated in San Miguel from July 26 through August 17, offering tourists and locals exceptional concerts and open rehearsals and, for musicians, workshops and scholarships.
The festival was founded in 1979, under the direction of Carmen Masip, when a group of music lovers began the tradition of presenting high-quality chamber music concerts in town. It is one of the oldest festivals in San Miguel. Since that time, the festival has presented over 100 ensembles and soloists from around the world and has supported over 100 young musicians.
To celebrate the festival’s anniversary, a special soirée was held for about 50 private donors and musicians at Wesley Gleason and Jim Castro’s lovely home on Friday, August 2, after the performance of the Daedalus String Quartet at the Ángela Peralta Theater.
