Summer wine sipping for San Miguel Community Foundation!

By Gregory Gunter

When it comes to wine country living, Sonoma County shines, Napa Valley nails it, and Baja’s Guadalupe is great. But the Wine Life — La Vida del Vino — in San Miguel is sweetest!

But don’t just romanticize about living in the wine country — come and sample the wine life for a day, and help raise funds for the San Miguel Community Foundation (SMCF). On Saturday, July 27, the vineyard-adjacent Casa Magdalena estate hosts La Vida del Vino as a public open house and wine tasting sponsored by the Dos Buhos Winery.

The event kicks off with formal wine tastings at 4pm and again at 5pm, with two stages hosting tastings and wine notes of three different varietals from Dos Buhos Winery, whose vineyard backs up to the front door of Casa Magdalena. The event’s 100-peso admission fee — remember, all proceeds benefit SMCF — includes the tastings and two complimentary glasses of wine, while elegant waiters pass trays of canapés accompanied by the sounds of a poolside Marimba band. Visualize Sideways meets The Great Gatsby, but with your sleeves rolled up!

The event closes at 6pm with a Grand Prize Drawing — all attendees receive three raffle tickets — with prizes ranging from a hosted three-night B&B stay at Casa Magdalena, including a personal chef cooking dinner on-site for a wine-paired dinner one evening. Other prizes include an iPad mini and a Rosewood Sense Spa package to indulge in a day of beauty.

As an Open House event, attendees will be able to tour Casa Magdalena’s six grand master suites and barrel-vaulted rooms designed by architect Pedro Urquiza, while sipping wine from the vineyard-viewing terraces or the grand poolside terrace. The event is hosted by Coldwell Banker Smart, an elite Previews International® office of Coldwell Banker, and “Your Dream Team” of local Realtors Greg & Ivy, the marketing duo managing the exclusive representation of the property.

“The sellers and I wanted to support the local community,” said Broker Daniel Ortiz, who, with his wife, Roxana Cházaro, owns Coldwell Banker Smart. “We’re pleased that all funds raised will benefit the San Miguel Community Foundation, one of the community’s oldest nonprofit groups.”

For 30 years, SMCF has granted charitable funds for the benefit of San Miguel de Allende’s most needy nonprofit Mexican charities. The foundation’s grants are awarded to charities where a meaningful difference can be made, where there is the greatest need at the time of the grant review, and where other monies are not readily available from the community for these charities’ causes.

Casa Magdalena is located immediately east of the new gated golf community of Zirándaro, on the road to Queretaro. Watch for signs directing attendees where to turn next to Zirándaro, or see the map in this week’s advertisement.

While tickets can be purchased at the door, attendance is limited and advance tickets are on sale at Coldwell Banker Smart on Cuna de Allende 19A, right next to restaurant Ten Ten Pie—call 152-3197 for more information. Brindaremos — we’ll toast your health Saturday, July 27!
