Find your way around: There’s a new map in town
By Jade Arroyo
On July 12, a new, unique map of San Miguel was presented by Rhonda Lerner. She is a cartographer and has been a resident of San Miguel for seven years.
“I explored each calle of the Histórico Centro and discovered new boutiques, restaurants, art galleries and more. I collected all of their business cards and brochures to create the guide. No business paid to be included in the guide,” said Lerner.
She recalls that she was inspired to create the map after living in Chiang Mai, Thailand for three months and discovering a similar map that was very useful. “Upon our return, I decided to create an artistic and accurate map of the town that would be both useful and visually appealing,” she said. Lerner collaborated with photographer Bob Barros, who shot the cover photo and designed the cover.
When residents have visitors, the at-a-glance guide will help them plan a day meandering the calles of the historic center, with or without their hosts by their side.
The map launch was held at the gallery at La Conexión, Aldama 3. The map is available at the Warren Hardy school, Petit Four, BajioGo, Darla’s, La Mesa Grande, Vía Orgánica and La Conexión, among other places. A Spanish version is coming out soon.
