Art auction benefits Amigos del Parque
By Jade Arroyo
For the second consecutive year, an art auction was held at the Rosewood hotel to aid the civic association Amigos del Parque, which focuses on protecting and improving Parque Juárez. Art lovers and people committed to the conservation of this vital space in the city gathered on June 21.
The funds raised will be used to create an area in the park for young people behind the children’s playground, where the basketball courts are located. The area will feature exercise equipment and meeting spaces. Fundraising will continue through the year, the art auction being the first event.
The auctioned artwork was created by Mexican and foreign artists, some of them residents of San Miguel. Among the pieces on offer were works by Diego Rivera, Marilo Carral, José Luis Cuevas, Spencer Tunick, Fernando Pizarro, Omar Zurita, and many others—101 pieces in all. Depending on the piece, bidding started at anywhere from 1,500 to 50,000 pesos.
The event was organized with support of the Traeger & Pinto Gallery, which has been dedicated to the promotion and sale of contemporary art in Mexico City for over a decade.
