World Music Day June 21

By Antonio de Jesús Aguado

On June 21, World Music Day is celebrated. In this event anyone can play music in any place, but always following the simple rule that the music must be free.

World Music Day was the idea of Jack Lang, the French Minister of Culture in 1981. June 21 was selected because it is the day of the summer solstice (the longest day of the year). The day is now celebrated in more than 250 cities in 120 countries, where music is played at no charge in parks, public plazas and even private venues.

In Mexico the event has been adopted in cities such as Guadalajara, Los Cabos in Baja California and Mexico City, at the urging of the Alianza Francesa de México. Although in San Miguel this festival has not been held before, there are many places that have live music. Although it is not free, it is an excuse to celebrate this day at the same time as many other cities. Here is a list of places that offer live music.
