Broadway came to San Miguel on Mother’s Day
By Mireille Rita Grovier
From the Paris Opera House to the rooftops of London, with a touch of the jungles of Africa thrown in, the children of Centro Infantíl San Pablo honored their mothers with the school’s annual Mother’s Day performance. This year’s presentation, “CISP 10 – Broadway” offered a spectacular taste of Broadway musicals. Produced and guided by the incomparable theatrical talents of the school’s Directora, Patricia Palacios, and with the creative contribution of Andrian Ross, strains of the music of Andrew Lloyd Weber and Walt Disney filled the air. Eight Phantoms of the Opera rode from the halls of a Paris gala to the cellars beneath. Ten umbrella-clad miniatures of Mary Poppins danced to a lilting “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” A pride of Simbas brought the jungle from The Lion King to the lawn of St. Paul’s Church. There was much more: Music from Hairspray, Grease, and Mamma Mia, plus a song and dance routine by Directora Palacios and the school’s three maestras. The show’s finale was comprised of the entire cast in a tribute to their mothers.
The children’s mothers and other family members sat at tables in the cool morning breeze, enjoying a treat of cookies and iced tea while they watched the performance.
Centro Infantíl San Pablo in San Miguel is a tuition-free preschool based on the Head Start model.
