Who will be Prom King?

By Irene Diamant

Having taken a vote for the SPA’s Prom King, we find ourselves in a terrible bind. Negrito, Ace, Cappy and Tramp have each made “the most popular” list among their fellow pooches. The vote is stuck in a four-way tie. I have to agree, as I have not met four more appealing fellows.

When Negrito, around one and a half years old, sees you coming, he leaps straight up in excitement. Sometimes he’s a selective guy about the humans he likes, but he eventually likes us all and is happy to shake hands with alternating paws. A medium-sized boy with short black fur, he is very observant, enthusiastic and curious. He’s developed a SPA reputation as having the sharpest lizard-spotting eye.

Tramp (who has a steady gal, Lady) is an adorable small/medium guy, a little over two years old. He is a cream-colored, fluffy, furry male who looks like his Disney namesake. Formerly a vagabond, he has settled in just fine at the SPA, happy not to worry about food and shelter any more. He loves to play and is quite a delightful fella with, really, a smile on his face. He also has very expressive ears used to check out everything. Nothing passes his alert attention.

Cappy and Ace bear a striking resemblance to one another in that they are shorthaired, Labrador-mixed male black beauties. If 10-month-old Cappy weren’t a guy dog, Silky would be a more descriptive name. Cappy is thrilled with everything! He has never had a dull moment in his life. He is so joyfully full of vim and vigor that you might even want to get up early to take him for a run. If not, just watching his interest in everything brings back the joy of childhood, puppyhood in his case.

About eight months old, Ace didn’t get his name for nothing. He’s all dog and ready to be your best friend. In fact, he is ready to be your dog’s best friend too! Ace is the Will Rogers (“never met a man I didn’t like”) of the canine world. If you want a dog that embodies “dogginess,” he’s your guy, now and forever.

I’m sure you can now appreciate our dilemma! And we haven’t even talked about the Prom Queen candidates (too many to mention). Maybe this year, we’ll crown all our wonderful dogs. See what I mean by checking out and!
