Sounds of son benefit the Red Cross

By Jade Arroyo

Rhythmic Cuban son flooded the auditorium of the Teatro Ángela Peralta on the evening of April 24 at a special concert to raise money for the local Red Cross. Nurys and her Cuban Son burst onto the stage with an explosion of timeless danzón tunes and other Antillean rhythms, bringing everyone to their feet to move to the rhythm.

When the concert ended, a raffle was held, and winning concert-goers received gift baskets, recorded music or special dinners for two. The winners were announced by the president of the local DIF and wife of the mayor, Karla Ramírez.

This highly entertaining concert was an initiative to augment donations to the annual Red Cross collection and was sponsored by CubaFest SMA, the San Miguel Red Cross, the municipal government, Department of Education and Culture, Mexican Association of Hotels, CANACO-SERVITUR and CANIRAC-SMA.
