Our May pets of the month

By Lynn Weisberg and Joan DiPiero

Meet Venus and Dipper, our dogs of the month. They are sisters and part of a litter of nine (yes, all named after planets or stars) that were born at the SPA in 2011. They were adopted together shortly after being weaned, but returned a year later when their owner moved.

Now almost two years old, these girls have grown to be large, energetic, playful and loving dogs. They are both lovely to look at, as well. Venus, maybe part Weimaraner, is stunning and lithe, with gorgeous eyes. Dipper has a funny, happy, goofy expression and a gleam in her eyes. They would do best with space to run and play. Both would make wonderful protection pets too, even though they’re not at all aggressive. Leaping high into the air, they’ll bark at strangers who won’t know that they’re lovebugs in disguise so will tend to keep away! Is your home the right one for one (or both) of these girls? We hope so.

P.S. Susie, their mother, is also looking for her own home!

Delilah and Cinnabar are May’s featured cats. Delilah was found in an enclosed cardboard box, with no food or water, probably having been there at least 48 hours. We agreed to take her in, but were very concerned about her state of mind and temperament after suffering such an ordeal. Kittens can be immune to certain stressful situations like this, but this cat was beyond kittenhood, at least one year old. Much to our surprise and relief, Delilah adjusted immediately, perhaps just happy to be fed, watered and sheltered. She is a very affectionate, purring girl, a gray tabby with a sweet chunky face that calls out for “oohs” and “ahhs.”

Cinnabar, a charming little calico girl, showed up at our front door with her mom, Coco. Coco had obviously been an excellent nurturing mom, since Cinnabar was healthy and happy from day one. Cinnabar, now about five months old, is in that independent stage where she refuses to acknowledge Coco to prove that she’s a very grown up kitten, just waiting for a home. We’d love to find a home for Coco too!

Adopt any of these Pets of the Month during May and receive a free adoption kit. Adoptions are 350 pesos, which includes spaying/neutering and vaccinations. Meet them and their friends at the SPA, Monday-Saturday, 11am-2pm, Los Pinos 7, phone 152-6124.
