CubaFest adds to the Red Cross yearly collection

By Jade Arroyo

As a part of the efforts to raise funds to benefit the local Red Cross during its yearly collection, next Wednesday, April 24, at 7pm a special concert by the Antillean band Nurys y su Cubano Son will take place at the Teatro Ángela Peralta. At a press conference, this benefit performance was announced by representatives of both the Cuban festival and the Red Cross, inviting the public to enjoy this rhythmic concert while helping raise money.

Nurys y su Cubano Son is led by a singer from Havana who performs Cuban guaracha and was one of the specially featured artists at CubaFest this year. To add to the fun, each ticket holder will be entered in a raffle to win one of three baskets containing a CD of Cuban music, rum and other items, dinners for two al Misión El Molino hotel and other surprises.

The event is a collaboration between th CubaFest SMA and the local Red Cross, with support from the municipality, the Department of Education and Culture, the Mexican Association of Hotels, the CANACO-SERVITUSR and the CANIRAC SMA. Tickets for the concert cost 300 pesos, and each one is valid for two people. They are available at the Red Cross facilities, the Ángela Peralta box office, Rosalba Real Estate, and from members and volunteers of the Red Cross. Tickets can also be delivered to you by calling 152-4225, 152-1616 or 154-4472.

Also, a call was made to the community to donate used bicycles to the local Red Cross team, as a part of the CICLOTUM (Bicycle Medical Urgencies Techniques) initiative. The bikes are needed to provide better emergency service; paramedics arriving on bikes can help at accident scenes until the ambulance arrives. Anyone who wishes to donate can drop off a bicycle at the facilities of the Red Cross Monday through Friday, 8am to 3pm; ask for Gustavo Adolfo Rodríguez.
