Town is warming up
By Jade Arroyo
April is here and with it we change our clothes and thoughts for lighter ones, while enjoying the sun, the open air spaces and the kindness of the weather.
We suggest going to La Parroquia cafe to have a delicious breakfast. This place is tradition in town, open over 15 years. Located at Jesús 11, you will recognize it by the San Miguel mural painted outside. There are options of meals to please everyone, from typical chilaquiles and eggs to super healthy light choices. Many of the ingredients are homemade, like the bread and the marmalade. Try the fruit smoothies.
One of the most attractive natural features of San Miguel is the hot springs. These bathing waters are the perfect cure for stress and tiredness. Don’t forget the sun protection, to get a nice tan. There are several of these retreats located on the road to Dolores. To get there, you can take a taxi for about a 100-peso fare. La Gruta might be a nice choice… it has several different pools: large for swimming; hot-water interior; and small for children.
Vacations are undoubtedly the perfect time to retreat and rest yourself. If that’s your case, you will find an excellent refuge at the Sense spa, inside the Rosewood Hotel (Nemesio Diez 11) and treatments for relaxation and beauty. Especially interesting are the treatments based on traditional Mexican natural ingredients, like the body scrub with chocolate and mole or the herbal teas prepared with native plants.
At the end of the day, the bar/terrace at the Hotel Matilda is a good place to keep in mind. Perfect for the warm nights that are beginning, this place has a pleasant terrace and an inside room. On Thursday nights there’s a resident DJ, and during the weekends there is usually a fun vibe and ambiance. There is also a tapas and salad menu available.
