Can’t fool you! Our April pets of the month are wonderful!

By Lynn Weisberg and Joan DiPiero

For April, we are highlighting puppies Scooby and Macy and cats Fancy and Nadia. Scooby and his sister Macy, both now seven months old, were rescued from near a school in the campo when their “angel” saw them being kicked and abused by school kids. When they first arrived at the SPA, they were extremely timid and would curl up into balls when petted, apparently waiting for the next kick! It took quite a while to convince them that they were safe now. While Macy is still very shy with strangers and anxious in new situations, both have blossomed. They are gorgeous black and tan brindled dogs. Scooby is small-medium and growing, while Macy remains quite small. Both love the company of other dogs and are smart, eager to learn, and give great kisses. Macy is just beginning to learn that it’s safe to take a walk outside, but Scooby now bounds along happily. They would do best with a patient person or family with tons of love to give.

With a name that fits her to a T, Fancy is a gorgeous long-haired well-groomed four-year-old female. She gets along beautifully with her feline roommates, but declines offers of petting. Fancy would make a perfect companion for someone who wants a no-fuss, no- muss, independent cat. All she needs from her humans is plentiful food, a cozy sleeping spot, and a prominent reclining spot where she can be admired.

Nadia is the last of our late summer kittens and we can’t explain why she has not yet been adopted. About six months old, she is a darling dark tortoise with a very pleasing personality. Maybe she’s just been waiting for the right family to discover her. Could that be you?

Adopt any of these Pets of the Month during April and receive a free adoption kit. Adoptions are 350 pesos for dogs and 300 pesos for cats (vaccinations and neutering included).

Check out our website Join Facebook (it’s easy!) so you can follow us at with albums of all our cats and dogs available for adoption (biographies, pictures and videos). Stop by the Jardin on Thursdays from 11am-1pm to meet some of our available pets, purchase SPA items, donate, join or renew your membership. Please consider volunteering! Walk dogs. Play with puppies and kitties. Give cats some love. Lots of ways to help!
