For millennia, Istanbul represented the gateway to the East, a place coveted by would-be conquerors and kings. The city’s charisma endures today, with remnants of Greek and Roman palaces, opulent Byzantine cathedrals, undulating Ottoman domes, the spectacularly scenic Bosphorus Straits and the Grand Bazaar.

“Splendors of Turkey” is a 14-day tour, July 8-21, which will explore this fascinating city and sail the turquoise waters of the Turkish Mediterranean on a three-night private gulet cruise − a luxury take on Turkish-designed sailing vessels of old.

The excavated Greco-Roman city of ancient Ephesus offers grand houses with gorgeous mosaics and wall paintings. Ephesus was the thriving capital of Asia Minor under the Roman Empire and site of the home where it is said the Virgin Mary spent the last years of her life.

Visitors are increasingly enticed to Cappadocia, with its fascinating fairy chimneys and romantic cave hotels. It is a stunning area of otherworldly rock formations, subterranean churches and underground dwellings. On the tour, guests will spend two nights in a luxury cave hotel and learn about the spiritual dance of the Whirling Dervishes at a fascinating evening performance.

Throughout it all, feast on freshly prepared meze, or Turkish tapas, and other delicacies that fuse ancient Middle Eastern and Greek cuisines into history you can really sink your teeth into.

“Celebrate the Gathering 2013 in Ireland” is an18-day private tour September 21–October 8. There’s never been a better time to visit Ireland.  In 2013 the people of Ireland are hosting an unprecedented year-long celebration of everything that is unique and great about Ireland and you are invited to join in.

The tour features three wonderful festivals and a two-night stay in Ashford Castle, one of the most distinguished five-star castle hotels in the world.

Discover the allure of Ireland’s landscapes, its Celtic past, and people quick to share their wit over a pint.

In the vibrant streets of Galway, Ireland’s cultural heart, indulge in the Galway Oyster Festival, the largest seafood festival in the world.

The National Ploughing Championship is chock full of food, heritage, crafts, and farming. Watch giant Percheron draft horses plow the straightest fields and sheepdogs competing for top dog prizes.

Walk the walls of Derry and visit the Titanic Museum in Belfast. Journey through isolated fishing villages, verdant farmland, and medieval and early-Christian sites.  Relax in a pub with traditional music providing a soundtrack to your Irish adventure.

And end this priceless adventure with two nights at the Dublin Theatre Festival, Europe’s oldest theatre festival. This year it will celebrate “Your City, Your Stories,” putting Dublin at the very heart of the festival.
