Sharing culture at La Biblioteca
By Jade Arroyo
La Biblioteca, one of the best-known cultural institutions in town, is a civic association, which means it does not receive any kind of governmental support. It supports itself with income raised from its several enterprises: the bookstore, cafeteria, theater, newspaper and, of course, the kind donations of people who are committed to bringing culture and the arts to the community and supporting the education of Mexican youth.
On February 12, La Biblioteca offered a cocktail reception for the people who have donated to this institution in the past three years as a way of saying “thank you!” The goal was to make the donors feel welcome, to inform them about the library’s achievements and projects and to introduce them to each other and to the board and staff members. All this seasoned with music, wine, snacks and laughter.
The party was held in the Juan Manuel Fajardo Room, which features the beautiful mural “La Cultura Chichimeca” (“The Chichimeca Culture”) by artist David Leonardo.
