San Miguel de Allende is known to the world as a cosmopolitan city, rich with history, architectural design, art and food, but now is the time that fashion takes the lead. On March 14 at the prestigious Rosewood Hotel, the incomparable talent and craftsmanship that have remained jeweled in this region will be made known to the world as San Miguel takes its stand in the fashion world. The mission of Art2Wear is to boost the local economy, build awareness of fashion in San Miguel and give back to the community by donating all proceeds to a local nonprofit daycare, Casa de Los Ángeles, all the while providing an unforgettable experience.
With designer names such as Cock of The Walk Designs, Recreo San Miguel, Apashanka, Mixta, Talula de la Lune and Armour Jewelry, you are guaranteed nothing less than an amazing show. Sharing a similar goal, these local powerhouses have graciously donated it’s time and expertise to help San Miguel brand itself as the Milan of Mexico.
Bringing the show full turn is the resonating soulful music of the Maylee Thomas Band, which has selflessly donated their time as well. Thomas, who has long been considered a fashionista, is also very dedicated to giving back to the people, which is why she co-founded, with Cameron, the Love Life Foundation. The Love Life Foundation, which is also a sponsor of the Art2Wear Fashion Show, is dedicated to ending the epidemic of child abuse by garnering public awareness and by financially supporting already existing agencies fighting for the cause.
The Art2Wear Fashion Show is operating solely on sponsorships and donations, with all proceeds going to San Miguel’s Casa De Los Ángeles.
Casa de Los Ángeles
It was founded in 2000, and offers refuge for children of the streets and free daycare for children whose mothers come from the outskirts of town to try and make a living. As well as daycare services, Casa de Los Ángeles also helps mothers find the resources to provide a better life for their loved ones, such as medical services, a food bank and scholarship opportunities.
Art2Wear was created in 2013 by a group of fashion enthusiasts wanting to expand the recognition of their beloved town. Their mission is to educate people about the countrywide talent that until now has remained a somewhat well-kept secret, and to support local growth. Art2Wear is the precursor to a weeklong event, Fashion San Miguel, scheduled for summer. Fashion San Miguel will embody the same aspect as Art2Wear, but host many more designers from across the globe. Tickets on sale at Galería Buena Vida, Recreo San Miguel, Mixta and La Victoriana.
