New exhibit at Café-Galería Carlos Muro
By Heidi Hunter
Margo Godin has been sharing her time between Montreal, Canada and San Miguel de Allende for the last 10 years. The colors, light and culture of this beautiful city have greatly influenced her work. She occasionally works on a series with a predetermined theme, but mostly lets herself be guided by the unexpected effects of the pigments on the canvas.
Margo Godin and Luc Bedard

Godin’s art is a spontaneous, intuitive process involving a constant dialogue with line, form and color, resulting in often surprising compositions.
Godin has had many solo shows over the last 15 years, mainly in the province of Quebec, Canada. She has participated in juried shows and was awarded three jury’s first prizes.
Abstract expressionist painting and the process of art-making for Luc Bedard is likened to an excavation of the subconscious mind. Through an ongoing intuitive dialogue with his canvas involving a continuous process of construction and destruction, Bedard strives to uncover the hidden meaning behind the lines, forms and color that appear as he works.
The process involves a constant willingness to explore the possibilities which emerge as the work progresses. The risk, of course, is that all or part of the work can be ‘ruined’- a fear which underpins our need to control the results. By letting go of this fear and by bypassing the inner critic that continually threatens to sabotage creativity, Bedard boldly explores the exciting realm of the unconscious mind and the universal truths he feels are revealed in a successful painting.
In this exhibit, Bedard presents canvases with a limited palette, mainly blacks and whites and different tonal gradations of grey. At times, a bold stroke of color breaks this monochromatic harmony and creates tension. The emphasis here is on form, as it reveals the artist’s inner state, intent and meaning. The artist’s hope is that the canvases will evoke a different response from every viewer, leading to a very personal interpretation of the work.
Café-Galería Carlos Muro will be showing the works of Margo Godin and Luc Bedard, both artists from Canada, continuing until March 14.
