Mujeres en Cambio celebrates Mexico’s unique gifts

By Terri Peterson

“Hecho en Mexico” (made in Mexico), while a common phrase, is also a sign of exceptional handmade products, folk art, textiles and cuisine which are unique to Mexico. Mujeres en Cambio’s February luncheon highlights these wonderful gifts as well as the gift of education we provide for worthy young campo women in search of a better life.

Mujeres en Cambio celebrates Mexico’s unique gifts
Thu, Feb 28, 2-4pm
Hacienda de las Flores
Hospicio 16
Purchase tickets (150 pesos) in advance at
La Conexion (Aldama 3 and Cafe Monet (Zacateros 83),
and Solutions (Mesones 57).

Join our celebration on Thursday, February 28, from 2-4, in the lush gardens of Hacienda de las Flores. Stroll the colorful gardens sipping a glass of wine while mingling with friends and volunteers.  Browse our display of beautiful, unique and whimsical arts, crafts and textiles, all hecho en Mexico.  Perhaps you will be the lucky raffle winner of one such piece.

For our ever popular luncheon, guest chef Eric Nemer of San Miguel’s acclaimed restaurant, “Hecho en Mexico” (of course) will provide his delicious traditional enchiladas verdes con arroz y frijoles.  As always, tasty side dishes and sumptuous desserts made by Mujeres members will accompany your meal.

Thanks to your ongoing support, we distributed 61,000 pesos to 33 university students and 71,000 pesos to 120 prepa and secundaria girls for another year pursuing their dreams…our most successful year to date.  In collaboration with other NGOs here in town, we gave more lap top computers by CJP to our sophomore university women and presented a sex education talk by a representative from CASA.

With your continued investment in Mujeres’ education program you are encouraging the hard work and diligence it takes for girls to maintain a yearly average of 8.5 to 10 points, in hopes of a much needed scholarship. Your participation is both a gift to a young woman in need and one you receive in return.  Just 150 pesos for a fabulous lunch with friends and a taste of Mexico’s unique arts will give you a whole new perspective of “hecho en Mexico”.

There is limited seating.  Tickets must be purchased in advance at La Conexion (Aldama 3), Cafe Monet (Zacateros 83) and Solutions (Mesones 57).

We would also like to invite you to our general meeting on Saturday, February 23, from 1 – 3 p.m. to learn more about Mujeres en Cambio and the gifts of education we provide each year.  The meeting, which is in the community room at St. Paul’s Church on Cardo, is open to everyone. A pizza lunch will be served.
