Horacio Franco honors deserving students

By Delia López

Have you thought about making a difference in the lives of students lately? Well, maybe you should! Jóvenes Adelante A.C., a San Miguel de Allende-based non-profit organization, provides scholarships which make a difference for many San Miguel youth who want to go to college. These scholarships provide funds to give students a real chance at achieving their education dreams. “We look for a student who is trying to get ahead in life and a well-rounded student with good grades,” says Stephanie Hough, president of the association.

Teaming up with internationally acclaimed flutist Horacio Franco to raise money for the scholarship fund gives Jóvenes Adelante the opportunity to help students pay for their tuition.

Horacio Franco is nowadays one of Mexico’s most successful classical musicians, performing also folk, contemporary and popular music, with an international reputation based on a 30-year career as a soloist and conductor. He has attracted a young public from all social classes with his pop star image, unusual for one performing classical music, and he attempts to change the way people approach classical concerts by making them more attractive, especially to young people.

During Mr. Franco’s visit here in San Miguel, he will be meeting with students and parents at the Sindicato (Recreo 4) on February 8 at 1pm to make sure that they become active participants and are stimulated by a wide variety of music. There is no cost to attend this presentation of cultural information and memorable student engagement.

When you purchase a ticket to the concert, you support the Jóvenes Adelante Scholarship Fund and have a direct impact on San Miguel students who need your support. Your concert ticket purchase will assist these underserved students to meet the cost of their education. So come out and enjoy great music and help us provide deserving students with funds for college.

All of the fun begins at 4:30pm, with a free pre-concert talk by Mr. Franco to tell you all about the musical program that he will play. Then right after the concert, we invite you to join us for a wine tasting presented by the Toyan vineyards. Both of these events will be held in the charming Obraje chapel just in front of the concert venue.

This first fundraiser of the year is a much-anticipated concert event, so get your tickets now: Tickets are 400/350/250, and 150 pesos. They are available at the following locations: La Conexión (Aldama 3), La Biblioteca (Insurgentes 25), Hotel Casa Primavera (Salida a Querétaro 189 A), or at the Jóvenes Adelante office (Plaza Primavera, local #19, Salida a Querétaro 189).

Buy your ticket today and contribute to the scholarship fund — investment in bright, talented students today provides the creative leaders for tomorrow. Help us help our deserving students — now more than ever we need your help!
