How about a night of magnificent food and delightful writer camaraderie under the stars on a local farm, just 20 minutes from Centro? And a bus to scoot you there and back? Good news: we gotcha covered!
Conference attendees, local folk and visitors to San Miguel alike, are invited to the gorgeous farmstead of poet Judyth Hill and chocolatier Michael Mckenna to enjoy the rural beauty of the mountain-ringed Jalpa valley, to feast and fete and read your writing, or say a few words, give us a song, or share a moment of silence ‘round the fire.
Hop on the bus waiting for you outside the Hotel Real de Minas, and come be our guest at Simple Choice Farm.
Dine on a traditional San Miguel specialty: a carnitas dinner… roast pork simmered to superb tenderness for many hours, accompanied by locally made moles and salsas, and fresh tortillas hot off the comal.
Plus, there will be a do-it-yourself tableau of fajitas with your choice of grilled chicken or grilled veggies served with all the trimmings: grilled onions and peppers, grated cheese, sour cream, fresh cilantro, pico de gallo. We have our vegetarians covered, San Miguel style! Help yourself to farm-fresh garden salad, homemade relishes, and just-made loaves of wood oven baked bread, made right here on the farm.
Come back for seconds, and even thirds if you like, but please leave room. To top all this deliciousness off, we will be serving Judyth Hill’s well-known brownies! And perhaps you would enjoy a cafe de olla…?
Dinner will include sparkling water with limón and/or two glasses of wine.
Then you are invited to gather under the star-filled sky around the campfire for the talking gourd fire circle.
You are invited to read your own work, or speak from your heart, read a poem of another’s that you love, sing a song, or just enjoy the starry skies and sweet fellowship of writers and artists.
“Talking gourd” is a Native tradition that brings us all together in the BeautyWay. We each have a turn to speak, or sing and make an offering of beauty in our own way. Or hold sweet, peaceful silence.
This ancient way of sharing is profound and powerful; it a wonderful way for writers to really hear each other and respond to the land, the night, the moment, and offer gratitude for the blessings of our lives here, gathered together in San Miguel.
Sign up for the festivities, and purchase your ticket online on the Conference website, or tickets may be purchased at Registration during the Conference.
Our Conference bus will pick you up, drive you to the farm, and return you to the Hotel Real de Minas by 10:30pm.
We await the pleasure of your company at Simple Choice Farm!
