Traditional Mexican Dinner at Bugambilia
By Nathan Feuerberg
During the eighth annual San Miguel Writers’ Conference, writers and readers will get a chance to enjoy a set menu at Bugambilia on Valentine’s Day. If you’ve never tasted traditional Mexican cuisine, you won’t want to miss out on this special evening. Bugambilia was one of the first restaurants in San Miguel de Allende, and over the years it has become known as the place to go for chiles en nogada. Recently it moved to a new location and is now inside Hotel Casa Linda on calle Mesones.

For this special occasion, designed to allow Conference attendees to dine together and to sample the best of Mexican cuisine but also open to the public, Bugambilia will be preparing a four-course set menu (vegetarian option available) including margarita or non-alcoholic beverage.
The evening will start with a margarita or non-alcoholic beverage. Next will come the Ensalada de la Casa, a salad with three types of lettuce, three types of cheese, as well as grapes and apple. That will be followed by Bugambilia’s delicious Crema de la Cosecha, a corn cream soup with a touch of chile poblano.
For the main course you can choose among chiles en nogada, a poblano chile filled with ground beef, almonds and raisins, covered in a cream sauce and sprinkled with pomegranate seeds, giving the dish the colors of the Mexican flag: or pechuga de pollo en salsa de mango, a chicken breast smothered in a mango sauce, sprinkled with almonds and served with rice and green beans; or chile relleno, our vegetarian choice, a breaded poblano chile filled with goat cheese and beans.
The set menu includes flan de la casa and your choice of coffee or tea.
Tickets can also be purchased online at www.sanmiguelwritersconference2013.org.
