Save the date: March 2, Casita Linda Folk ‘n Blues music fest
By Amber Nieto
For those who had an opportunity to attend last year’s sold-out music benefit for Casita Linda, we’re sure you’ll remember the outstanding music, the captivating venue at Ranchito Cascabel and the wonderfully supportive audience—it made for a memorable day. This year’s Folk ‘n Blues Festival scheduled for March 2, 12pm-6:30pm, promises to be even more exciting with a line-up of top performers from Canada and the US, including:
•Bill Bourne-No.1 CD on 2012 Canadian Music Charts and Juno Award Winner.
•Marcus Eaton-Featuring songs off his new CD collaboration with David Crosby.
•Randy Singer-Headliner at 2012 International Jazz & Blues Festival.
•Stephanie Urbina Jones-#1 on Texas Music Charts and Latina Award Winner.
•Eaton and Sanders-Veteran singer/songwriters of gold and platinum records.
•Shon Sanders-Featuring soulful songs from his new 2013 CD release.
•Tom Driscoll-Local fan favorite and alumnus from last year’s event.
•Peter Ross-Performs his unique and beautiful style of Shakuhashi flute.
In addition to the very talented musicians who have unselfishly donated their talent for this worthwhile event, Casita Linda is expanding the venue to include more parking, a food court with several local top caterers and restaurants and the addition of plenty of bars to purchase your favorite beverages. “We’re trying to model this festival after the major outdoor events we’re all so familiar with in the US. It’s definitely a throwback to the all-day festivals where everyone can hang out with their friends, hear great music and enjoy the unique and inspiring environment that is Ranchito Cascabel,” stated Louise Gilliam, Event Chairman for Casita Linda.
For those who haven’t had a chance to experience spending a day at Ranchito Cascabel, this event offers the public a rare chance to see this unique architectural masterpiece. “There’s no way to describe the entire creative nature of this property. Everyone has a different but similar reaction on their first visit which ranges from ‘mind-blowing’ to ‘astounding.’ It definitely challenges the boundaries of your imagination,” said Mike Sanders, who performed at last year’s festival and returns this year to perform.
So please join us for a wonderful afternoon of celebrating these very talented singer/songwriters while at the same time helping Casita Linda in the invaluable work they do building homes for worthy families in our community. This year, Casita Linda will complete their 60th house, and you can be part of achieving this milestone by attending this event.
Tickets will go on sale February 1 at La Conexion (Aldama and Libramiento), Solutions and Longhorn Steakhouse. Ticket price 400 pesos. Not unlike last year, a shuttle service will be available to the event and Casita Linda encourages carpooling to minimize the impact on the environment.
