Encantados, divertimento and “enchanted” reencounter of two great artists
By Xavier Gibler
When Xavier Gibler moved to San Miguel a little over 11 years ago for his first New Year’s celebration in our city, he decided to invite a very dear friend and colleague from Mexico City, Jorge Alfredo Obregón —musician, singer, guitarist and actor — as his special guest. Throughout 23 years of friendship, they have shared many musical experiences and endeavors.
Ballads, boleros, trova, American standards…

Now, a decade later, life has also given Jorge Alfredo the opportunity to live in our beautiful city. This past October, Jorge Alfredo came to San Miguel to start looking for a place to live. The very day he arrived, Gibler asked him to share the stage once more that same night at an event at the Rosewood Hotel (by the way, Xavier has been singing every Sunday during brunch for the past year at the Rosewood’s Restaurant 1826). Things worked out in such a way that they were able to share yet another event that same week. As of December, Jorge Alfredo lives in San Miguel, and both friends are more than encantados to be able to share once more this wonderful adventure of singing together. During these days of celebration of love and friendship, what better way to do it than through the heartfelt songs of these two great artists?
San Miguel will have the opportunity to witness their debut at Mama Mia, enjoying their unique way of singing, playing and sharing their friendship of many years.
We have already experienced Xavier Gibler’s singing in many different dimensions: from his “most minimum expression” as he describes his unplugged “one voice, one guitar” performances, to sharing the stage in different presentations and ensembles in a diversity of genres and with many artists and musicians, both local and national. His multicolor baritone voice and his unique way of expressing music have made him remain in the minds and hearts of those who have the pleasure of listening to him sing. Now the enchantment will be twofold, with the addition of the masterful guitar and voice of Jorge Alfredo. Through their musical comradeship, their songs in English and Spanish, with a vast diversity of rhythms, genres and styles, in a fun and lighthearted yet sublime musical entertainment, this Divertimento promises to be something to be remembered for many years to come.
Obregón brings to the table a vast experience, both in Mexico as well as abroad, as musician, actor and singer, in film, theater and television. He has also been musical director, stage director and distinguished music copy specialist in productions for institutions and artists such as Juan Gabriel, Plácido Domingo, Alejandro Fernández, Clare Fisher, Enrique Patrón de Rueda, Luis Cobos, The Philharmonic Orchestra of Mexico City, Gonzalo Romeu, Rocío Dúrcal, Bebu Silvetti, Chucho Ferrer, Lucero, Angélica María and Guadalupe Pineda.
Both Xavier Gibler and Jorge Alfredo Obregón are delighted to share their gift of music through this reencounter. Surely you too, dear reader, will be “enchanted” with their Divertimento! Don’t miss it!
